san gimignano and volterra

we explored these two tuscan villages on our first day in italy.

we walked around all day in the sun occasionly looking for shady spots to have a coffee or gelato to rest our legs.

the light breeze carried the perfume the fresh flowers in bloom that were climbing over the stone walls to greet us.

after a long morning of sightseeing we stopped at a little restaurant in san gimignano and had lunch in the open air patio. roberto had homemade basil pesto and i had walnut pesto with a bit of chianti rosso, of course.

the center of the town was filled with sunburnt tourists snapping pictures of any and everything, but when we walked out to a country a bit the only thing we could hear was the sound of the clothes flapping in the wind on the line and the distant church bells.

i hope you like the pics!
